Hi! Welcome to the new Greenacres School Board of Trustees blog. As a result of our recent community consultation, we’re aiming to increase our information sharing amongst our school community, so this will be the place you should first look when trying to find out board related information. Over the next few months, we will also profile some of our board members so that you get to know us all a little better.
Board meetings – why not join us?
Our board meetings are held on the 3rd and 8th Tuesdays of every term, at 6pm in the staffroom. Did you know that you, as a Greenacres School community member, can attend these meetings if you’d like? It’s a great way to find out more information about what is happening at a governance level with our school. If you’d like more information about attending, you can chat to any of the board members. After each meeting, we intend to share the meeting minutes on this blog.
Introduction to the role of the Board
In case you’re not aware of what the role of the board is, we are the Crown entity responsible for the governance and management of the school. We are the employer of all staff in the school, are responsible for setting the school’s strategic direction in consultation with parents and staff, and ensure that the school provides a safe environment and quality education for all students. We are responsible for overseeing the management of personnel, curriculum, property, finance and administration.
Mrs Shirley Porteous, in her role as Greenacres Principal, is the board’s chief executive in relation to the school. She must comply with the board’s general policy directions, but otherwise has complete discretion to manage the school’s day-to-day administration.
